Procesamiento de imágenes para diagnóstico de estado de pavimento aeroportuario - Etapa 2
El objetivo principal de esta investigación de pregrado es aplicar distintas herramientas de procesamiento de imágenes para definir las características más apropiadas para poder: i) detectar pavimento degradado, ii) geolocalizar qué segmento específico se encuentra en mal estado, y iii) clasificar el nivel de degradación respectivo. El postulante deberá tener afinidad con la programación y el procesamiento de datos (o gran interés por aprender). Se tendrán reuniones semanales para monitorear estado de avance y discutir resultados. No es requisito haber tomado cursos sobre procesamiento de imágenes con anterioridad, pero están especialmente invitados a postular aquellos estudiantes que sí lo hayan hecho.

Image analysis of collective cell migration in epithalial and cancer cells
Key characteristics of wound healing and cancer metastasis are migration of multiple cells with more or less degree of coordination (collective migration). In this project, we collected movies (time-lapses) of various types of cancer migrating on substrates of different mechanical properties. We are looking for students to develop and apply image analysis pipelines to analyze the time lapses. Analysis is done using a combination of computational tool that involve ImageJ (image registration, drift correction), MatLab (particle image velocimetry) and Phyton (statistical analysis and plotting). The student will have the opportunity to aid high-impact science in a dynamic and international environment.

Segmentation and classification of rocks in mining operations.
ChatGPT Within the field of the mining industry, one of the main activities is the fragmentation and crushing of rocks for material extraction. In this context, the accurate detection of rocks in mining operations becomes crucially relevant. However, rock recognition remains a problem. One of the challenges lies in the segmentation and classification of rocks based on their size. From this perspective, the objective of this undergraduate research project (IPRE) is to carry out the manual labeling of rocks present in mining operations and evaluate the performance of two neural network-based algorithms for rock detection and classification.
